This picture demonstrates the overhwelmed portion of the post. I did eventually get this all into 2 suitcases and 1 backback thanks to the help of the whole family. I leave in the early morning for Miami with a short layover in Dallas. I'll be in Miami for about 24 hrs for Orientation or staging as Peace Corps calls it and I will meet the other health volunteers. Then it is off to Managua, where I will be for about 3 days. From what I understand, we attend alot of informational meetings and have a language interview which will determine what training site we are in. They split us up into groups of 3 or 4 depending on language ability and send us to different surrounding areas of Managua. I officially start the 3 months training on Mon. Jan 26 and finish sometime in April. Somewhere near the end I will find out where I will be living for the next 2 yrs. I do know my address; it will change after training, but it should be this for the next 3 months or so:
Danielle Lewis, PCT
Voluntario del Cuerpo de Paz
Apartado Postal 3256
Managua, Nicaragua
Central America
Thank you all for the support and encouraging words as I have prepared for this adventure. I will have my cell phone until about 11am on Thurs., then I leave for Nica. Don't all call at once :)

Dani!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you! I hope that your journey there is safe and that hopefully you'll meet some really cool people. It is weird that a year ago we were sitting at DGD wondering what we were going to be doing with our lives...I'm glad you took the risk, you'll never regret it. I am proud of you!
Love Ya!
Sara
P.S. I like the nickname NICA. That will be way easier to spell.
Danielle,
ReplyDeleteIt is exciting to see your journey, thanks for sharing with us! I like seeing your friends and surroundings - kind of like you are taking all of us along with you!
Have fun and good luck,
Gail
